Quality pet photos can be a true treasure. Many people take their pets to a professional pet photography studio, or have a photographer come into their home. Others take advantage of the relationship they have with their pet and set out to take some quality photos themself. If you are looking to take on this challenge it’s important to remember to stay patient and keep things light hearted. Don’t skimp on your shots. The more you click the better your chance you’ll get the perfect photo of your pet.

When you’re aiming to take quality pet photos, lighting is important. In most cases, photographic lighting in a familiar environment works best. Direct sunlight and flashes can both can alter your pets coloring and should be avoided, unless your pet has a black coat in which case these things will enhance shading.

The next thing to consider is what position you want to take when you start taking those photos. In order to truly embrace your pet’s world, it is best to get down own their level, even if that means lying on the ground. Don’t try and make your pet “pose”, but instead manufacturer conditions that are most comfortable and adjust your own positioning. Experiment with plenty of angles, from full body shots to pictures of his face taken with a zoom lens. If you need to, you can have someone help your pet hold still during the photos.

Lastly, assure that you bring your pet’s natural personality into your photos. Chances are you’ll need a little help. The more comfortable your pet is, the more great shots you will be able to get. By having a person available that your pet knows and likes, you’ll be able to create some great shots that will remind you of his best moments. Favorite treats and toys can also help. Your pet photography day is a special one, so don’t be afraid to get a little silly or that you might spoil your pet with extra goodies. With the right level of patience and humor the day can be fun for everyone.
